Other Bio Bits: Steve graduated from Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Clown College in 1997. He says the program was more like boot camp than college. "It was only eight weeks long and we trained fourteen hours every day." Out of 2000 applicants, only 33 were accepted and Steve-O was one of them. However, after graduation, only 10 were selected for the circus and this didn't include him. "Perhaps I was seen as more of an insurance risk than a clown." So he went back home to Albuquerque, New Mexico to film himself doing dangerous and stupid stunts for submission to skateboarding companies. Steve-O's relationship with Big Brother Magazine began in 1997 when they ran a side-bar article about him catching his face on fire when their Big Brother tour came through Albuquerque. In 1999 he moved from New Mexico to Florida. For six months he worked as a performer on Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines and was then offe a job at the Hanneford Family Circus as a clown. During this time he was featured in several more issues of Big Brother Magazine and even filmed a part for the Big Brother video "Boob". This is when he became involved with Jackass. He says he did all his filming for the first season of Jackass within three days. "I was able to save up all that elephant shit from the three circus elephants" he says.

steve o interview

2. How old were you when you performed your earliest stunt?
There are stories of my earliest stunts that my parents have always told, like that when I was two years old I would open the doors of speeding cars and hang out of them from the backseat. My first attempt at walking resulted in my breaking out my front teeth, I don"t remember any of that, but I think I was pretty much an idiot from the beginning.

3. What"s the worst danger you"ve ever been in?
Well, I can"t decide if it was the the hammerhead sharks I swam with while wearing sliced up, bloody barracudas strapped to me, or the time I paid a fat prostitute to pee on me under a bridge in a dingy area of New York City. Both of those skits are pretty much my favorite video footage I"ve been a part of.

4. What"s your favourite stunt?
That I"ve done? That would be the ridiculous footage with the Hammerhead sharks, when that footage comes out, I"m going to be the man. Nobody has to worry about "Fat Peeing Hooker" airing on MTV anytime soon.

5. Who thinks of all those crazy things you guys do?
For the most part, we each choose our own demise. There"s exceptions to every rule though, many people would be surprised where some of these ideas really come from.

6. Who is your all-time idol?
The term "idol" implies a wish to emulate other people. I"d like to be as different from everyone else as I can, so I can"t really answer that question. The person whose feats have impressed me the most for the last dozen years or so is Danny Way, the circus gets me stoked too.

7. What is something you would NEVER do?
There"s plenty I would never do.

8. What do your parents think of your job?
My parents haven"t always been my biggest supporters, but in there defense, it was still long before I started making an honest living that they apologized for having discouraged me and became supportive. Not long after that, my dad started helping me negotiate my first contracts involving licensing my own video footage to television shows. My parents are genuinely supportive, but, even if they weren"t, who gives a crap?

9. Is it true that Carmen Electra is really a man trapped in a woman"s body?
That"s such a bad question, what is this, for MTV Europe or something?
