M500 EXCLUSIVE
INTERVIEW WITH MARZ PART 3. FROM 6/25/2004......
HODGE- What’s goin on MARZ? How’ve you been
man?
MARZ- Life is great homie. I’ve just been
working
hard in the studio with this “TGZ NATION, The
Mixtape”
album and a bunch of other new shit bro.
HODGE- I wanna first start of by congradulating
you
on the Mixtape man! That shit is great!
MARZ- I appreciate that homie. I put my heart
and
soul into that album.
HODGE- Alright, this might seem like a shameless
plug, but I know a lot of ninjas are wondering
how
this recent association with MYZERY came about?
MARZ- You linked us up with camp MYZERY back in
the
winter. Thanks bro, I almost forgot about that
shit.
I appreciate it Hodge. I first started to talk
to
them through PONCH(MYZERY’s Hype Man). He’s one
cool
fucker right there. We started talking on the
phone.
I think MYZERY’s the shit.
I’m a big fan of his.
We
were like "we gotta do some stuff together". We
actually had already done 2 tracks together
before we
even did the Baltimore show. Recently I had
bounced
to NY to take care of some business a couple
times and
I met up with them again. Ya know, it’s all
lovely
man. We’re actually trying to make an album
together.
That’s in the works and it looks like it’s gonna
be
happening here within the next 2-3 months. Our
whole
thing is already rollin!
HODGE- Can you tell your fans about your recent
big
meetings with Label cats in NY?
MARZ- Actually yeah, a couple things are new.
One is
that we’re being managed by a company named
Eclipse.
Who is my homie Rashad, who’s Alliyah’s brother
and
her mom Diane. They all managed Alliyah and took
care
of her business. They got ahold of my Mixtape.
I
have been friends with Rashad for a couple years
now.
They heard the album and flew me out to NY. We
had a
couple of really big meetings and they’ve been
helping
out a lot ya know. They’re managing the project
right
now. As a matter of fact I’m going back out to
New
York on Tuesday to have a meeting with Atlantic
Records. So it’s a lot of positive things
happening
for me right now ya know.
HODGE- The songs Teach You How To Fuck and
Chi-Town Nasty were both missing from the TGZ
NATION
Mixtape. Why were those songs pulled from the
album?
How about those interludes that are on your
Members
site. Were they supposed to be on the album as
well?
MARZ- Actually they weren’t pulled from the
album.
We already had the album done. I did a bunch of
other
songs, but we had already finished the album. I
write
all the time. I write even when I’m not in the
studio
ya know. So we had the whole album done and sent
out.
Then I was looking at my songs and was like, Man
I
wanna go to the studio and get these recorded
anyways.
That’s why I thought up the Members Section of
my
site. To give everybody that’s really down some
extra
mad good shit, cause those songs to me are
blazin.
Those songs weren’t just only Ok, so I dropped
them
off the album. Those songs are fuckin dope ya
know
what I mean. The way my mind is about this music
biz
is different than most. I don’t like the way
labels
rip people off on albums and only give the fans
the
minimum ya know. That’s not how I think shit
should
be run. I’ve been a part of many major Record
Labels
and for the most part most Record Labels are just
fucked. I think people are paying too much for
cds
and not getting good enough product. We’re
trying to
flip the script on all that. We’re about to give
you
as much as humanly possible. Quality material in
songs and everything else ya know what I mean.
For
way less than what these people are charging. I
think
it’s ridiculous to pay $15 and $17 for a cd.
That’s
just fuckin ridiculous. I think that’s why
everybody
is jackin shit off the internet. If labels put
out a
cd that’s $10 and it’s blazin, they’ll be glad to
pay
for it. That’s how we’re setting up RAW DAWG.
How we
would do, cause we’re still big fans of music. I
have
a inside view of labels and can see how they fuck
up
and rip people off. We’re doing the exact
opposite.
Quality shit ya know.
HODGE- Is the Members Section of your site gonna
continue to feature Rare and Unreleased audio?
MARZ- It’s gonna have mad amounts of Rare Audio.
It’s gonna keep building. That sections gonna be
around for a long time. We’re gonna put footage
up
from all the shows to. Not to mention I have at
least
50 other tracks you haven’t heard bro. And I’m
still
writing more everyday. Probobally gonna put at
least 1
New track up a month. Also a lot of behind the
scenes
footage as well.
HODGE- Didn’t you recently do a collaboration on
Detroit rapper- WHITE BOY RIC’s album? Any
future
collabs with WBR?
MARZ- WHITE BOY RIC really helped us out a
couple
times. That’s my homie. I got mad luv for him.
We
did a track called respect that was on a
sampler. I
don’t think that’s gonna be on any albums but
we’ll
probably put it up on the members section. Yeah
man,
that was the shit. That song turned out pretty
dope.
HODGE- Was the song HOLLYWOOD HOES on your new
TGZ
NATION MIXTAPE album a diss to your longtime
friend
CHAOS?
MARZ- LOL, Man you know what LOL, yeah Imma say
Yes.
It’s not a big deal though man. I still got luv
for
that mutha fucker. But you know to me...part of
the
thing about hip hop, it’s like a literal
expression to
me. When I write shit, very rarely will I make
shit
up. Unless you’re talking about like DARK LOTUS
where
I rhymed about severed heads and assholes hangin
from
my earlobes ya know. The shit that I write for
myself
is literal. Even the fuck songs or party tracks,
I
think about certain times of my life about what I
was
doing or am doing at the moment and put it in my
songs. So during the time I wrote that song
about
CHAOS, that’s how I was feeling ya know. It’s
like I
ain’t got no bad blood with him now. He’s been
my
homie since 3rd grade ya know. Anyways, so
that’s how
I write. Nothing personal, but if that’s how I’m
feeling about you at that moment, than that’s
what I’m
gonna rap about.
HODGE- Since your doing strictly rap now, would
you
still consider doing a song with one of your
Rockstar
friends like TOMMY LEE?
MARZ- Nope, lol. Nah man. This is what I’ve
wanted
to do the whole time. The path that I went to to
get
to this point. You feel me. I mean I loved what
I
did in the past to get here. All the way from my
roots with MINISTRY and the heavy shit that I
listened
to. That was definitely a part of me, but wasn’t
fully me. This is more fully me. Maybe I’ll
change
in a year or 2 and wanna do some type of rock
shit but
I ain’t feelin it right now. And I have been
asked to
do that. I’ve been asked by a lot of people, a
lot of
people that got money where I can get paid. I
coulda
went a lot of different routes. And believe it
or
not, I do this shit cause it’s my heart. At the
end
of the day, I know it ain’t about the fame,
bitches or
cash. At the end of the day I gotta live with
myself
ya know. That’s my first priority. The cash and
the
bitches come with that. I just gotta do what I
love
and am feelin. Even when I did GORILLA PIMPIN I
tried
to make that album a lot more hip hop than my
debut ya
know. And it woulda been a lot more hip hop but
guys
like JOHNATHON DAVIS had his influence which was
dope,
but now I got way more of my influence in my
shit.
It’s hip hop. That’s what I listen to and what I
write. If you write from you heart it’s mad
easy, but
when your trying to be something you think people
wanna hear than it’s fuckin hard.
HODGE- What cds are spinning in your stereo
these
days?
MARZ- Man, just a lot of different Hip Hop shit
ya
know. A ton of up-and-coming artists from
Chi-town.
I also just got the new LIL FLIP album. Oh yeah,
the
new LLOYD BANKS to.
HODGE- After all the drama right before
TWIZTID’s
GREEN BOOK Tour last year, would you still
consider
linking up for a collaboration or tour with
TWIZTID or
BLAZE in the future?
MARZ- Yeah no doubt man. I think TWIZTID are
fuckin
mad dope. Mad cool. They’re my homies. I think
BLAZE is a cool mutha fucker. So yeah, no doubt.
Ain’t no hard feelings with those boys. I’d
always do
shit with them.
HODGE- In one of the news videos on your site
you
gave MASTAMIND(of NATAS) big props. Would you
ever
collab or tour with MASTAMIND? I even heard that
DARKERSOUND ENTERTAINMENT wanted to sign you at
one
point?
MARZ- Hell yeah, I’d do shit with MASTAMIND.
I’m
still talking with DARKERSOUND. We’ve got a
really
good relationship ya know. They’re mad cool.
I’ve
got nothing but luv for them and MASTAMIND and
their
whole organization ya know. But right now the
way I’m
doing it is like I wanna set my own shit up by
myself
first. And have my own shit grounded in the
foundation ya know. As soon as I got back from
Cali
and all that shit went a lil strange with GEFFIN
RECORDS, I had Labels calling me right away.
It’s all
luv but I need a second here to do my own shit.
HODGE- What’s the scoop on upcoming projects or
tours?
MARZ- What we’ve got coming up is my New York
Business with Atlantic Records. Also, we just
got a
new booking agent. We’re trying to book a
Nationwide
tour. I’m always writing and I’m already in the
works
with a new MARZ album, which I didn’t steal the
beats
and shit, lol. Constantly improving homie. I’m
putting together RAW DAWG. RAW DAWG is my homies
PACK
& CHRISSY. I gave you a lil taste of them on the
Mixtape already. Right now me and my crew are
having
so much fun! We have a drama free zone these
days.
If you got some weird ass shit than you just need
to
bounce. Everyone around me has that same goal.
A
drama free zone these days. We’re just having a
great
fuckin time these days. We’re coming!
HODGE- You’ve been a member of and affiliated
with
such big name groups as- MINISTRY, DARK LOTUS,
and
KORN. Being in the music business for as many
years
as you have, and being associated with all those
musicians, I’m sure you’ve got your share of wild
stories to tell. Ever think of one day writing a
Tell All book about the business?
MARZ- When I write that book, lol. Here’s the
deal.
It’s like I write all the time, just like I was
telling you the other day. And I don’t just
write
songs. I journal. I keep stories and all that
shit
written down. I absolutely will write a book one
day.
If I was to tell the whole truth right now about
the
shit I know Mutha Fuckers will Hate me. Theirs a
lot
of shit you just can’t tell ya know. So, I will
one
day write one. Maybe when it gets past the point
where it’ll fuck peoples careers up. Cause I
don’t
wanna fuck anybody else’s shit up ya know. But
man
homie, I know so much shit about people. And I’m
the
type of person that for some reason people always
tell
me their secrets. I think cause my vibe is very
non-judgemental ya dig. Cause I don’t care.
It’s
like whatever you’re into, I don’t care ya know
what I
mean. I won’t judge you for it. That’s my vibe
and I
think people feel free to be honest with me to
tell
their shit. But yeah, I got a lot of them Mutha
Fuckers stories to tell, lol.
HODGE- Well, that’s about all the questions I’ve
got
for you man. Thanks again for taking the time
out to
do this interview with me bro.
MARZ- Anytime Hodge. You know you’re my homie.
Whenever man.
HODGE- Any last words for your fans reading
this?
MARZ- Just know that I really appreciate all the
support and luv through the years! The best is
yet to
come!
